Mimbre Acrobatic dance theatre.
'A Room of Her Own' is a mesmerising, timeless, digital installation, animated with live acrobatic performance - where ideas and thoughts float through a room together with their creator. The installation plays with the ephemeral nature of inspiration in the moments before it is captured in words: a contented world of creativity, where solace is found in the company of ideas. Inspired by poets and writers across the ages, the piece is also a comment on the persistent lack and recognition of female writers, particularly in theatre.
The work includes 3 live performances a day by a trio of Mimbre’s female acrobats, and the structure provides a beautifully animated, ever-shifting installation when performances aren’t taking place. Projection design by Eva Auster and Production design by Loren Elstein bring this world to life and a soundscape and performance soundtrack by Quinta accompany the work.
'A Room of Her Own' was commissioned by South Bank Centre. The idea was developed with the aid of a creative residency at La Breche, Pôle National des Arts du Cirque, France and 101 Creation Space, Newbury. The PASS Circus Channel project has been selected within the scope of the INTERREG IV A France (Channel) – England cross-border European cooperation programme, co-financed by the ERDF.
